What NOGGIN has done to my kids!!!

Published by sfreeman at 10:29 pm under General Coverage Edit This

Whatever happened to the days where kids would just sit down and watch a show or two of Sesame Street, think about the colors and numbers that they learned during that episode…and then move on to something completely uneducational, not even thinking back to what they had just learned. Now, there’s this new station called “Noggin” that has completely brainwashed preschool aged kids and parents into thinking that it is okay to watch television all day long….like, you can really “learn” from sitting in front of a TV for hours and hours and everything would be just fine….I mean, the NERVE of the people who thought of this idea!!You know what…..Thank you! Parents, if you have not seen this channel yet or do not have it, invest the money into getting it….Noggin is absolutely wonderful! I have two children now who have watched this station and some of the things that they have learned from watching the various shows are absolutely brilliant.Noggin is a site that is owned by Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. It is a preschool themed channel and all of the shows are catered to children up to ages 5 or 6 (by this age my oldest son began losing interest). Some of the shows that come on are Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Little Bill,
Franklin, and the Wiggles. There are other, lesser known shows too that are quite interesting such as Wow! Wow! Wubbzy, Oobi, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast (try getting a 3 year old to say “ferocious”), and Oswald. There is a new one that comes on now that my four year old currently watches which is called Yo Gabba Gabba…I don’t know what to tell you about this show except for that it is corny, catchy, and funny at the same time. My son loves it!!!

Basically every show has an educational theme to it with educational songs. They teach children about sharing, and being friendly, eating the right foods, and on and on. I am not one who particularly cares to let my kids sit in front of a TV all day long, but with Noggin, it is fine because I know that in addition to what they learn from me and at school…they are learning a great deal of things on that channel.

The channel also promotes interacting with the shows and topics. In between shows there are various games and stories by Noggin’s Hosts Moose A. Moose and his pet bird Zee. This is an added bonus because children WILL get up and interact. Both of my boys have followed along in the dances that they show you, the songs that they sing, and the games that they play. This repetitive approach teaches the children far beyond any other child show I have ever seen (or watched in my childhood years). It only made sense that Dora, Diego, and Blues Clues would be on this channel since that is what their shows promote as well.

Noggin is also available online with games and printable activities. You may find station information as well online at www.noggin.com
